STEM as a Focus

STEM will be a part of every grade level and every subject. An example is our very successful Accelerated Reading program. In the past students have tended to read close to 100% fiction but with STEM they will be expected to change that mix to include more age appropriate science and informational reading. When learning shapes students may begin using simple computer programs to draw and move their shape which introduces them to technology. In studying simple machines they may build a Lego bridge or a robot that demonstrates the movements studied. Social studies might include a live web visit with students from another area or even another country as technology is used to bring understanding of different regions and cultures to life. In all areas where STEM learning can be incorporated into the classroom doing so will be our goal.
